Watching President Biden and his administration actively undermine America and then pretend that’s not precisely what he’s doing reminds me way too much of a scene from the 2003 Billy Bob Thornton comedy “Bad Santa.” It’s the scene where Willie, played by Thornton, offers to give a kid he met earlier in the day a ride home. The Kid is persistent in asking question after question in naive and exhausting fashion until, finally hitting his limit, Willie just simply has enough.
Willie: What’s the matter with you, anyway? Somebody drop you on your fuckin’ head?
The Kid: On MY head?
Willie: Well yeah, what are they gonna drop you on, somebody else’s head?
The Kid: How can they drop me onto my own head?
Willie: No, not onto your… I… wha…. would… God Dammit! Are you fucking with me?!
Ignoring for a moment the parallels between our current president and an old guy pretending to be Santa Claus while robbing his victims blind, the exchange perfectly captures the way I feel watching the White House Press Secretary field questions from reporters before pretending not to know what they mean and giving half-baked nothingburger answers with all the mock sincerity she can muster. It’s the exact feeling I get when I hear President Biden slur and stammer his way through telling the American people that he’s taking border security seriously and then seeing the news that he’s directly flying hundreds of thousands of “inadmissible” illegal immigrants directly to 43 US Cities under cover of a secret program that allows them to bypass traveling all the way through Mexico to cross the border.
(Biden secretly dumped 320,000 ‘inadmissible’ illegal immigrants into US cities - Washington Examiner)
It’s difficult to take someone seriously when what they say is so diametrically opposite of the things they do. If it were stupid statements and idiotic ramblings at a dinner party, it might be easy to dismiss as eccentric senility. But this is coming from the Leader of the Free World. We are watching as a US President and his party accuse half the country of supporting fascism, label his political opponents as “extremist threats to our republic,” weaponize the Federal Government against said political opponents, try and ban said political opponents from the ballot, and prosecute anybody who dares stand up and question what’s going on. We’re watching Democrats impeach a president over phone calls to Ukraine suggesting they might ought to look into corruption even as they rally behind the guy who committed the corrupt practices and bribery. It’s insane to see all of this happening and it is beyond insane to watch half the country defending it as if there’s nothing wrong. Oh, there is definitely fascism at play here. There is definitely a threat to our republic. But it’s coming from the president and his administration.
Dispensing with the semantic nonsense and pedantic rhetoric of the president’s defenders, it should be clear to any rational person that President Biden has done some pretty atrocious things in the past three years. It is clear that there has been a strong anti-conservative bias coming out of the Justice Department, and that the prosecutorial actions of that agency under Biden have been all but formally weaponized against Trump supporters. When a president makes statements like “MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic,” as Biden did on September 2nd, 2022, you are seeing the nation’s Chief Executive make clear his expectations of the agencies reporting to him. When you see 51 career Intelligence Officers knowingly lie about Russian disinformation specifically so that they could help Biden beat Trump, you’re seeing a level and depth of corruption that goes far beyond anything that could ever be considered acceptable. A US President actively interfere with the Texas Governor’s attempts to secure the US Southern Border while quite literally bringing in illegal immigrants by every means possible should be considered treasonous. Consider briefly that under President Biden, illegal immigrants make up a population that, if collocated, would place them as our 8th largest state? Whatever your opinions and beliefs may be about the freedom of oppressed people to seek out a better life, you have to admit that what we’re witnessing right now is outside the lines.
There are plenty of policy arguments to be made as well, and I consider those to be a matter of principle around which differences of opinion are both acceptable and inevitable. That’s not what I’m talking about here. What has me worked up today is the bald audacity with which President Biden, his handlers (who are running the country as an unelected committee, by the way), and the Democrats in Congress consider themselves above the law. It is the selective, politically motivated enforcement of laws as deemed convenient to their agenda. It is the stark-raving corruption with which the President and his family take payoffs from foreign malign actors and then pretend that it’s not happening. It is the mountain of evidence that it’s all happening right in front of our eyes, and the mock earnestness with which the president’s supporters clutch their pearls and pretend to be surprised at such accusations of impropriety. They can’t all be serious, right? I just want someone with a voice loud enough that people can’t ignore it to stand up and ask, in all sincerity and on behalf of all of us:
Are you fucking with me?
It’s Super Tuesday. 16 States will cast primary votes today, and the results of that voting will likely tell us some important things about what November will shape up to look like. Please don’t let yourselves get beaten into not caring. Do not allow apathy and exhaustion to lull you into being a passive observer to the destruction of our country. Pay attention, lest you find yourselves relegated to being a consumer of the political process rather than a participant in it.
Yes! Thank you for so eloquently and precisely stating exactly what is happening. I've been reposting and sharing as much as I can. But I feel like the American public is asleep. I hope they wake up before it's too late!
